NFL Monday Morning Quarterback Week 6…..By Emperor Cole

The NFL season pushes forward with a bunch of interesting story lines. Another undefeated team fell in late spectacular fashion and many more are trying to right there team’s season while others are trying to stave off impending doom.

NFL

We will start off with the New Orleans Saints GIVING the Patriots the game day. I have never seen a team play so lazy as if the win was just a given so late in the contest on the road. And they were only up by 4 not 14 or 24. The Saints should have been more aggressive on offense when they got it back not once but twice and they simply didn’t handle their business– guess they started reading the news paper clippings about how good they were. They Saints were even seen on the sideline raising up a football and celebrating their would be “win”…. Yeah…lets just say the image of defensive coordinator Rex Ryan after Tom Brady threw the TD to win with 5 seconds says it all. New Orleans if you want to be serious Superbowl contenders…DON’T EVER DO THIS AGAIN!!!

The New England Patriots have to be the luckiest team in all of sports– and with the say things have been going for them so far this season I’d have to say they are the front runners for the Superbowl. The way they are winning games late with a no name cast of character is truly reminiscent of how they won their 3 titles in the early 2000’s.

The Seattle Seahawks coming of the loss to the Colts were at home against the upstart Tennessee Titans. Without Jake Locker and up in Seattle I expected this game to be a blowout but it was anything but. It was a dogfight until late in the game. The Titans played hard defense and kept it close all the way til the end with it all tied at 10 apiece.

Marshawn Lynch added a pair of TD’s and Richard Sherman picked off Ryan Fitzpatrick late to seal the win for the Seahawks. After taking the unexpected loss last week it was good to see them bounce back with a tough win…especially since San Francisco seems to have gotten warmed up and they are running through teams now as expected.

frank-gore-vs-cardinals

Speaking the 49ers they took on the Cardinals and handling business as they needed to. Frank Gore hit them early and often rushing for 101 yards on 25 carries. The Cardinals had no answer for Tight End Vernon Davis who embarrassed their secondary with a 8 reception 180 yard day with 2 TD’s. In some cases even double coverage was not enough to stop him. Kaepernick threw for 252 yards on only 16 completions but with Gore running the way he was and the defense playing hard he didn’t have to be “spectacular” to get the win.

Vernon Davis

The Green Bay Packers took the show on the road to Baltimore to square off against last year’s Superbowl Champion The Ravens. Aaron Rodgers was 17/32 for 315 and a TD. The Ravens D slowed the Packers offense but couldn’t keep them down the whole day. Jordy Nelson caught a 64 yard bomb for a TD. He finished with 113 yards receiving. The Packers  pulled out the close victory 19-17.

Eddie Lacy even added 120 yards on the ground in the win. The Packers are silently on a roll and could be a Superbowl dark horse. I picked the Ravens to be a major let down this season due to the personnel losses on Offense and especially Defense. As always time will tell.

In Buffalo the Bills took the Bengals to overtime where the Bengals eventually were able to get the win by a field goal. The Bills have been far more competitive than I thought they were going to be. Thad Lewis was able to throw for over 200 yards and 2 TD’s but he was out played by Andy Dalton who threw for 337 yards and 3 TD’s. AJ Green got loose on the Bills secondary for 103 yards on 6 catches and a TD.

In the watch what you ask for moment of the week The St. Louis Rams went to Houston and absolutely ANNIHILATED them. And they knocked starting Quarterback Matt Schaub out of the game with an ankle injury. Fans in Houston were cheering him being knocked out– then the backup T.J Yates came in the game….and threw the “pick 6”. LMFAO…. Texans fans please understand Schaub in the starting for a reason– Yates nor any other QB’s on the roster have out played Schaub so please understand Schaub is your best chance at winning.  Rams drop the Texans 38-13.

The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Raiders to stay undefeated. Andy Reid has to be the coach of the year so far. The Chiefs had TRIPLED last years win total. Jamaal Charles scored 2 TD’s and ran for 78 yards. Charles has scored a TD in every game this season.  Kansas City defense held the Raiders to only 7 points and held them in check all day.  Chiefs are 6-0 and eventually will have to play the unbeaten Broncos who are also in their division.

Will Kansas City be able to keep winning when they play the better teams in the AFC with Alex Smith playing “safe” and playing more to “not lose the game” more than playing to “win”

Alex Smith

The Broncos stayed in the perfect wins category by beating the Jaguars 35- 19. The Jag kinda got the “moral” victory because the point spread was 27.5 in favor of the Broncos. I had a feeling the Jaguars would try to make sure it was a respectable loss as oppose to a mega blowout that everyone thought it would be.

In other games this Sunday

Detroit downed Cleveland…31 to 17

Carolina blew out Minnesota 35 to 10

Pittsburgh got the win over the Jets 19 to 6

Philly picked up another win over Tampa Bay 31 to 20

In the Monday Night game the Colts visit The Chargers. I pick the Colts to win 34- 30.
