Potential vs Experience

Growing up we are all told to get a job work until you’re 65 and then retire to the easy life.  We look forward to getting a decent job after college and then climbing that corporate ladder to the top. This use to be the American dream but times have changed, And My generation and future generations are going to suffer.

I remember being a teenager and looking for a job. The first place I applied to was a supermarket named Wegman’s. At 14 years old i knew that a supermarket cashier and fast food was my best shot at getting a job. I got the job at wegman’s and  was proud to be working and making my own money. This way of getting into the job force was how most did it.  But Now we have a huge problem!

Today’s Working class has extended past 65. So now when I pull into a drive thru window, most times i’m expecting to see a pimple faced teenager taking my order. Now more  often than not, I see someone who could be my grandmother taking my order. I didn’t imagine my grandparents working for anyone past 65. But high unemployment rates, lost IRA’s and the recessions has made our economy the worst it’s been since the great depression. This hurts every age. If you’re at an entry level position and you’re looking to move up. Not only do you have to battle people your age but now you have to battle with people who are 30-40 years older than you. Who have tons of experience and now need a new way of income.

No more guaranteed job placement right out of school. There millions of Americans who can’t get in their career field. The lack of jobs have almost turned college into something laughable. You take out student loans for 4 years and after graduation your guaranteed nothing. There’s no scheme on earth better than that.

So what do we do to stop this? Some people would say put your grandparents in a home at 65, others say start your own business. I say go into health care lol, what do you suggest?
