The Next Bourne Sequel Has Become Two Bourne Sequels

At first, the next Bourne film was set to follow the last one- The Bourne Legacy, starring Jeremy Renner.

Then, the series changed its mind and decided to go with Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon, who were in charge of the last two Bournes.

Now we’re changing it up again- Renner’s Bourne hasn’t been scrapped, and instead we’ll be getting two new Bourne sequels at the same time.

BourneThe news comes from The Hollywood Reporter, who have Bourne producer Frank Marshall on record as saying that neither Bourne movie has been abandoned, and that Universal is proceeding with two Bournes “on two tracks.”

There’s just one tricky little issue- Universal has a 2016 release date all nailed down for the Renner-starring, Justin Lin-directed Bourne Legacy sequel. And if the Greengrass/Damon Bourne is officially ago (right now, everyone’s still negotiating the details), then Damon/Greengrass gets the 2016 slot, and Renner/Lin will be bumped to a point further on in the future.

So the Bourned are on two tracks… but two tracks that will eventually converge and send one Bourne spinning into oblivion.

Which Bourne will reign supreme? And which Bourne would people rather pay to see? Probably the Damon one, given how excited Universal is to get that up and running.

What we really need, though, is a Renner/Damon crossover. Because two tracks are nice, but two tracks that converge into a Bourne-stravaganza would be so much more fun.
