The NFL Real Contenders

Now that the playoff picture is starting to become a little clearer in the NFL.  We can start looking at the real contenders for the super bowl trophy.

1. San Francisco 49ers– The NFL’s best team has two losses, but with Colin Kaepernick executing the offense and the game’s best defense hitting like no one else, the 49ers look primed to run through the remaining regular season and playoffs. BUT there is one huge problem, This is not the Florida gators with Chris Leak and Tim Tebow! I don’t see the 49ers winning a SuperBowl with a QB debate. The 49ers needs to choose one QB and ride with him till the end of the season. Personally I think the team gets excited when Kaepernick starts, it’s a different energy on the sideline and the whole team seems to vibe off of that. No matter how dominant the defense has been they need a QB who can win a game at the end.

2. New England Patriots-The New England Patriots don’t have the AFC’s best record, but anyone watching over the past four weeks would see that this is the conference’s most dangerous team. Again. This team is back at it. The Patriots has won Super bowls in much different ways. First by having a dominant defense then by having a dominant offense. This year at least the offense is there! While Brady and the offense has racked up yards and touchdowns this year. The defense especially the secondary has been a weak link. With the addition of Aqib Talib they are hoping that he can keep his off field problems in order long enough to take them back to the promise land.

3. Houston Texans- Houston is the AFC’s first 10-win team, but this hasn’t been a dominant team over the last several weeks. The Texans are no longer tops in the AFC.  One of the biggest areas of concern when looking at the Texans’ chances in the playoffs this year is their lack of an established target opposite Andre Johnson. Owen Daniels when healthy helps take a little pressure off of Andre but no true no. 2 receiver has stepped up. With ultra-conservative play-caller Gary Kubiak in control, anything to potentially open up the offense would be a blessing. Their defense and running game will take them into the playoffs but they need that passing attack to go deep in the playoffs or it will be another early exit.

4. Atlanta Falcons-Let me just say this to start off with- I don’t trust Matt Ryan at all. With that being said Atlanta is 10-1!!! Let me repeat that they are 10-1 and not in my top 3. There really is two reason for my feelings, first off Atlanta Falcons are playing too many close games. That may work in the regular season, but in a one-and-done situation in the playoffs, I have trouble buying into Atlanta as a real contender. And Lastly Matt Ryan has been terrible in the play-offs. he is 0-3 with 3 TD’s and 4 int’s. He has never thrown for more than 199 yards in any playoff game and i don’t see that changing in the near future.

Honorable mention:

Denver-I think next year will be there year.

NY Giants- You never can count them out no matter what!

Green Bay- If they can find a running game to help Aaron Rodgers maybe they can pull off a run. James Starks get healthy!

Baltimore- I still don’t know who the real raven are, maybe we will find out in the playoffs.
