Think Those Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Designs Were Bad? See Something Far Weirder

If the recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot is remembered for one thing, it’ll be making the Ninja Turtles into hideous monster freaks that would traumatize small children.

But those children should get down on their knees and thank the heavens, because those turtles could’ve looked a whole lot weirder. If you’ve got a strong stomach and a stronger desire to peek into the terrifying unknown, glance below.

Ninja TurtlesWeird, right?

This concept art comes from artist Anthony Francisco (via Comic Book Movie). Apparently Francisco was one of the artists considered to design the look of the new Ninja Turtles, but he was beat out for the part.

There’s definitely a common theme, though, between Francisco’s Turtles and the ones we ended up seeing: freaky realism. So I’m guessing Paramount had that in mind when they sifted through the art world for a few turtle designers.

But for a few details, really, they’re not even that strange- they mostly just look like turtles, propped up on strangely long back legs.

Those heads, though… they’re kind of upsetting. Look again below:

ninja turtles 2I don’t know if it’s better or worse than the designs we got, but I know one thing. No matter, what, we were destined to get some freaky looking turtles in that TMNT reboot.

Alright, now it’s your turn: would you prefer Francisco’s mutant reptile creatures, or the finalized Paramount ones? And no, having a normal looking quartet of Ninja Turtles is not an option. Paramount’s rules; not ours.
