Acting in New York/Surviving NYC

So We’re in the middle of August, and some of you are in the process of moving to New York for college. Some of you have already moved to the city and within a week spent more money than you thought you would. First of all, don’t ever eat around Time Square! It’s a money trap for tourists. Second of all, don’t go out to eat somewhere every day. Buying groceries is key. A lot of people drain their funds and don’t know how they did it. Forget shopping for clothes or electronics. Going out to eat drains your funds so quick without you even knowing it. Now this seems like common sense, right? Well after a couple of weeks living in the city, or even in one of the boroughs, (Brooklyn, Queens, or The Bronx) you’ll catch yourself often times grabbing a bite to eat on the way to work or coming home. Because the subway system basically criss-crosses the entire city and the boroughs most people just walk everywhere. Well, walking everywhere and traveling on the subway is very exhausting. Drowsiness will sneak up on you. This being said, some people don’t want to cook when they get home. Neither do they want to pack something up to bring with them. Now, this sounds lazy, but a lot of people do it. Stick with the groceries and cook! Just to give you a minor example of how the city can be a money trap is Mcdonald’s. In any other state in the country Mcdonald’s has a dollar menu where you can get a cheap meal. Well, in New York City there are no Mcdonalds with dollar menus. But somedays you’re going to be pressed for time, and you’re going to have to grab something quick. So below I have posted a couple of “budget hotspots” to eat at as well as their locations.

2 Bros. Pizza

Locations: 6th avenue between 17th and 18th streets, right on the corner of 40th street and 9th avenue, and on Saint Marks Place between 2nd and 3rd avenue.

Any hot dog cart

The city is filled with hot dog and halal carts. You can get a hot dog for 1-2 dollars (Some have different prices). Or you can get a container of chicken and rice for $5.

Locations: Everywhere!
