Captain America 3 Will Have It’s Own “Hail Hydra” Game-Changer

Captain America 3 is third in line on the Marvel Pipeline (first is Avengers: Age of Ultron, then Ant-Man). And yet we know next to nothing about it- the film exists, and it will be directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, who also directed the extremely terrific Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

That’s about it. Luckily, a new interview (between Crave Online and the Russos) has just come to light which gives us a few choice details.

(A word of warning: maybe don’t read this if you haven’t seen Winter Soldier. Or if you’d like to remain unspoiled about all its ending bits).

CapScoop #1: The title (which will most likely clue us into the story) is coming really, really soon.

Says Joe Russo: “Yeah, we’d like to announce the title soon.”

Scoop #2: The core idea for Captain America 3 has been planned for ten years.

Says Joe Russo, once more: ” If you’ve been talking to Kevin [Feige, President of Marvel Studios] the title has been in place probably for ten years in his brain.”

Scoop #3: Captain America 3 will wreck the Marvel Universe just as badly as Winter Soldier did, with that whole “Hydra has been behind everything the entire time and now S.H.I.E.L.D. is no more” thing).

Here’s Joe Russo, one more time: “The big thing we knew we had to deal with in Cap 2 was the fall of Hydra. Similarly there is a very, very big idea at the center of Cap 3.”

Hopefully, we’ll no more once the title is in place. And there aren’t too many true classic stories in the Captain America comics library- the time he ran for president; the time he was assassinated; the time he discovered that Marvel’s equivalent of Richard Nixon was the head of a secret supervillain league and was so despondent that he stopped being Captain America for a few issues.

That and the whole Winter Soldier thing.

Cap for presidentAnd considering that the faux-Nixon thing is very, very closed to the Hydra twist in Winter Soldier, it’s probably not that. And probably not Cap for President, which is a little too goofy.

What does this mean? Keep it in the back of your head that Captain America 3 might just be the death of Cap.

And then, most likely, the torch-passing of that shield to another hero. Probably Winter Soldier or Falcon, if I had to guess.
