Emperor Cole Presents: Dvd’s You Should See; Pacific Rim & The Wolverine

In this day and age all the best movies don’t necessarily whined up on Netflix so I will give you some incite on some of the better films that I have enjoyed in theaters and in the comfort of my own home. If you are a sci-fi fan like myself you will enjoy these two these two films. Pacific Rim & The Wolverine.

When aliens arrive on Earth it is not anything like what we would have expected– they are extremely large and coming from a portal in the Pacific Ocean. The governments around the globe have to come up with some sort of a solution on how to deal with what could be the end of the world— so in order to fight these monsters we created monsters. The Jaegar program is humanity’s last hope against annihilation and they must find away to stop the Kaiju and restore order.

I picked up Pacific Rim and have watched it twice since the purchase and I even went to the theater to see it originally.  Needless to say I am a fan of science fiction and action films and the director Guillermo Del Toro is one of my favorites because of his visual style and great story telling ability. There are rumors that a sequel to the movie is in development because it did so well internationally after a slow start in the United States. I hope this is true! This movie has tons of actions and some loose humor added to it as well. It was even nominated for an Oscar for best visual effects. Check out Pacific Rim.

Next up is The Wolverine. This is quite possible the most “realistic” of all the X-Men films– now before you lose yourself complaining about me saying “realistic” let me explain. In this film Wolverine is the ONLY MUTANT for about 85% of the story– other than him everything else associated with this is set in the very real world. It has a much different tone than the previous X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie and is light years better than that project.

Logan is requested to come to Japan to help a dying friend from the past. He gets there and things quickly turn into a whole other situation from what he expected. He is now on a mission to protect his friend’s grand daughter and figure out who the real enemy is.

The Wolverine is an exceptional movie and sure to please the “fan boys” and the casual movie watcher. If you are familiar with the character’s history and background you know he spent several years in Japan and even fell in love there once– this movie comes right from that time period and those story lines in the comics.

If you are in the house on the weekend or looking for a good movie to cuddle up with that special someone and have a few glasses of wine — I strongly recommend these two movies for the entertainment value and film quality. I will give you these film suggestions once or twice a week so stay tuned!

If you have seen either one of these films feel free to write a comment and chime in on what you thought of them.
