Mainstream rappers stepping into the Ring

Mainstream rappers stepping into the Ring

What’s the word HAP’s immediately I know what you’re thinking “didn’t sun just do this blog?! Get something new!” Well, I reassure you this is something you’re definitely going to want to know about.
So if some of you recall I did the piece “ Could Industry Artists Survive in the Ring” ( if you haven’t read it check the archives).  Meek Millz is apparently ready to prove that he still has it and is willing to wager $100k against arguably one of the best Battlers right now “DNA”. This is huge to real hip-hop to see someone who has accomplished so much as an artist still have enough love for this culture to step in the ring with someone 9/10 regular people have never heard of and risk his current status. Now, if you’re a Meek fan you know he has put in his fair share of work throughout Philly establishing that he is a lyrical and word play titan. If you are not familiar with some of the work he has put in here is some of his videos.

Granted it has been done before, an “industry artist” stepping  into the ring, the Artist was Canibus who career is really defined off of 2 joints “Beast of the East” off the Lost Boyz lp “Love Peace and Happiness” and of course his claim to fame battle anthem “2nd round knockout”. Other than those 2 songs his career has really been a flop. While he will go down as one of the top 100 lyricist of all time, but when it comes to album sales, he is not an artist of note. The thought of Canibus stepping into the ring to face Dizaster created quite the buzz in the hip-hop world, as most of you may have seen it did not live up to the hype. If you have not seen the footage of the battle here it is
As you see in this footage Canibus did the battle world a huge dis-service and borderline disrespected the game with the bull $#!t he pulled with the note pad. This battle game is a different animal than it was when Canibus was going at with LL and right here you can see he is way out of his element. Now with Meek Millz being so young and not so far removed from this type of battle he may fair much better than Canibus. His opponent DNA has compiled quite the resume for himself and recently slaughtered Philly native and former Bad Boy artist E-ness in the 3-0 round massacre that left fans asking again can these industry cats really survive with battle dudes. If you haven’t seen the footage of this live lyrical lashing check it out.
Once again you get one of these washed up industry dudes coming in the ring and making a spectacle of the art. DNA is a battle rap powerhouse and Meek Millz is one of the hottest rappers in the streets right now. If the match up is to happen this would be an historical event and may even generate more pay-per view than some of these garbage boxing promotions.

It is crazy to see that Meek Millz initiated the challenge when more often than not its the battle cats calling out the industry dudes, but I guess after watching Eness Vs DNA Meek was feeling ramped up and had this to say:

After seeing the challenge issued DNA had this to say:
He also did a little promo his self for the possible bout :
Who knows when this is going to take place but if and when it does it will be an event to remember in hip-hop! We will stay tuned and keep ya’ll posted as this progresses . Well that’s it for now feel free to comment on who you think will win this bout and what this will do for hip-hop in general. until next time I leave you with this… Your worth as a person does not come from what you are paid. It comes from who you are and what you give.

Peace!
