Prometheus: Did Aliens Or God Create the Human Race…

The upcoming sci-fi film Prometheus which is directed visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott will be released to theaters this coming Friday, June 8th. It has been widely speculated that this is the prequel to the Alien series that kicked off with the original movie in 1979. The scripted was written by John Spaihts and Damian Lindelof and follows a crew of space explorers who find a connection between several ancient civilizations on Earth that existed thousands of miles apart and in some cases thousands of years apart. The signs lead them to believe the origins of the human race are actually extraterrestrial. Using a  star map from the clues left by the ancient civilization they launch off on an advanced spacecraft known as Prometheus. And as you may have guessed when they find what they were looking for– they wish they had not. The concept behind this film does spark a thought provoking question as to whether the human race could have really been the creation of a whole other breed of creatures that don’t even live on our planet. The explorer in the movie begin to ponder this when they begin to find out more than they thought they ever would. Of course you can imagine how a revelation like this could do some serious psychological damage to the general public let alone to a space crew stranded on a distant planet that they find out has hostiles on it.

The premiere of Prometheus took place on May 31, 2012, at the Empire Cinema in Leicester Square, London. The film was released on June 1, 2012, in the United Kingdom,  and is scheduled for release on June 8, 2012, in North America. It is rumored to have had a production budget near 150 million and it was filmed entirely in 3D on location in Iceland, London, The UK and Spain. For two weeks the crew was on location at the base of Hekia an active volcano in southern Iceland. Director Ridley Scott was quoted speaking about the experience “If one is afraid of nature in this profession then you need to get another job.”

20th Century Fox has allowed director Ridley Scott to have final cut on the film. In a move that isn’t seen enough with large studios they let him make the them the way he wanted without being too concerned whether the movie gets an R rating or the often too soft PG-13 rating. While the financial impact can be huge that is very unlikely to be the case with this particular project. Scott is a master director and he has a track record for very successful sci-fi films so Fox CEO Thomas Rothman stated early that he would not be forced to sacrifice the films quality simple for the PG-13 rating— SMART MOVE.

Prometheus is set to be showing in North American theaters Friday, June 8th.
