Warner Bros is Developing Two Aquaman Movies at the Same Time

Ever since Warner Bros announced a giant slew of eleven new superhero films (because they will beat Marvel at their own game or they will die crashing in the inferno of their own failure), people have been wondering…

What superheroes are going to fill in all that blank space?

Thanks to The Hollywood Reporter, we know at least one: Aquaman.

aquaman looking goodYeah yeah yeah we know. Aquaman isn’t cool. Which is, frankly, a super overplayed joke- Aquaman is totally cool, because he’s a guy who can ride on sharkback while impaling his foes on a trident. Like Thor with gills, basically.

Hopefully a movie can shed some of Aquaman’s terrible public image. And WB wants that to happen- so much so that they’re developing not one, but two separate Aquamans.

One is being written by Will Beall, who wrote Gangster Squad, and did a little work on an early Justice League draft. The other is Kurt Johnstad, who wrote both 300 and its recent sequel/prequel, 300: Rise of an Empire.

Both writers will continue to develop the scripts, until a to-be-determined date when Warner Bros will place the screenplays in a Thunderdome and let them fight to the death. Because despite developing two Aquaman movies, they’re only actually going to film one.

C’mon. WB isn’t that nuts.

The reason for such a strange strategy is that WB wants to get moving on Aquaman as fast as they can, and a little friendly competition between its Aquamans will get the film going in a real hurry.

With so much studio pressure, plus the hulking muscular form of Jason Momoa, maybe Aquaman can go from this:

aquaman is stupid

To this:

Aquaman is coooool

One can only hope.
