When he was in the NFL, one of Terrell Owens‘ signature phrases was “I love me some me.” But now it looks like his me-first act has worn thin in the Indoor Football League, where he was cut by the Allen Wranglers Tuesday.
“It is impossible to maintain a player when even our fans notice and comment on a player’s lack of effort both on and off the field. We need to do what is best for this team, our fans and this community,” team owner Jon Frankel said in a statement.
Owens, through his publicist, released a statement saying that it was “unfortunate” that the 38-year-old wide receiver was released and said that Owens’ participation was in line with what was laid out in his contract. ESPNDallas reported in January — when Owens announced he’d be joining the team — that the former 49ers, Eagles, Cowboys, Bills and Bengals receiver would only be obligated to play in the team’s home games.
But the bigger question is -was this planned? T.O may be known for alot of things but one thing people over look is his cunning. From having his own TV show to promising to play in the Super Bowl. T.O always acts on whats best for him. After the 38 year old tore his ACL he vowed to play football again and would not retire to an injury. Months later he signs and plays succesfully with the Wranglers. My bet is T.O was auditioning the whole time and now that we are getting close to training camp he does not want to risk an injury. Don’t dismiss T.O for one second and dont be surprised if a team out in the Bay area signs him. I know al davis is not alive anymore but the Raiders still like former Pro-bowlers
[…] worst record of 6-10. Will Chad show up and do well for the team or will this be his version of Terrell Owens with the Wrangler??? Only time will tell but one thing is for sure– #85 is sure to put on a show and have us all […]
