2nd Amendment Repeal

Repeal the Second Amendment
Time to get serious about guns and violence. Time to evaluate the problem as it exists now, in the 21st Century. Time to do something that many consider taboo. Yes, it’s time to consider repeal of the Second Amendment or at least the establishment of severe restrictions that make it the exception and not the rule.
Back in the 18th Century when the Constitution was drafted the Country was much different place. Citizens lived off the land, hunted for food, lived in remote communities that had only basic laws and even less law enforcement. This was a Frontier Society where people needed to protect themselves, their family and their possessions and where the right to bear arms was essential. We no longer live in a Frontier Society. We have mass communications, efficient transportation and laws and law enforcement professionals fully capable of protection us… If we level the playing field.
Just read the papers or listen to the news, how many times do you run across an incident where a crime was actually prevented by a someone carrying a weapon? I’m sure it happens but they are few and far between. More often than not, the person “protecting” themselves is unfamiliar on how to use the weapon and runs a risk of having it turned against them or you have a vigilante type, feeling frisky by the power in his pocket. (The Trevon Martin Case). Can you image an urban environment such as NYC where everyone carried a concealed weapon? As for assault weapons and ammunition suited the military. It is absolutely indefensible that such weapons have a purpose in the hands of the public.
In today’s violent society guns are used by Criminals. It is time we recognize that.

Repealing the 2nd amendment won’t do anything but make a bunch of republican NRA members homicidal. Most violent crimes that are committed today are not committed by a person that has a valid and legal weapon, with the necessary permits and registrations. They are committed by people who can’t qualify for a gun permit and thus unable to obtain a gun legally so they get get one from sombody on the street. Repealing the 2nd amendment won’t take those criminals off the street, all it will do is allow the criminals to run roughshot over law abiding citizens who can’t protect themselves, because owning a gun would be illegal.

I see your point but in reality how many times do you run across someone who actually “protected” themselves. Almost never!
The guy in Colorado bought all his guns and amunition legally. Many times a gun laying around the house is misused or involved in a crime of passion, which would not happen were it nor for the gun being nearby. Guns are simply too easy to get. It would be much more difficult if they were illegal.
