72 Is Possible!

Opening night in the NBA and the only matchup befitting the night’s festivities and ring ceremony could only be the Boston Celtics VS. Miami Heat.  It’s a matchup fans love because the two teams have a deep disdain for each other, and Miami fans loved seeing Boston have to sit around while Miami had a pregame celebration, which was made possible in part because Miami defeated Boston in last season’s Eastern Conference Finals, allowing them to take the eastern conference crown and go on to win the championship.

I wondered like most people if Miami could repeat and become a dynasty of sorts, but didn’t think they could because the team as structured didn’t have enough bench help or knock down shooters that could help the big three. However, with Boston treating Ray Allen like an unwanted stepchild, and Rashard Lewis bringing his talents to the team, not only can Miami repeat, I think they could actually challenge the 72-10 record of the ’95-96 bulls. I know it will be a lot more difficult for Miami to do it because the league is so deep now that even the bad teams can put it all together on any given night and get a win, but this Miami team has the talent to do it. Lebron in the Jordan role as the team leader and do everything guy. D Wade in the Scottie Pippen role as the trusty sidekick.  Ray Allen in the Steve Kerr role as the get to your spot and be ready to shoot guy. I give Chris Bosh two roles  one as Tony Kukoc because he can score and the other as Dennis Rodman because he can give the team 12-15 rebounds.  These are the key players on each team, and I believe that Miami is so good, if they stay healthy and come to play every night that not only can they challenge the record, they can smash the record.  It won’t be easy and all the stars have to line up, but records are meant to be broken, and this Miami team has the talent and the leadership to get it done.

On a closing note, yes, I did see the Knicks give Miami a beat down on Friday, but I discount that game because the Knicks were all hyped up over Sandy and D Wade had already said he didn’t feel like they should play the game so his heart nor the rest of the teams was in it. If the record is in their sights at the halfway point, I think it will be broken.
