Acting in New York/Surviving in NYC

So a lot of you are about to start college in New York. A lot of you have never lived in the city before so you may have a lot of misconceptions and incorrect cliche’s about New York City. For one thing you will never get robbed or “mugged” in the city. One because there are too many people around. Secondly, ever since the tragic event of September 11th, 2001, there are more police on the streets more often now. Another misconception is that new yorkers are such rude people. They might seem rude only because they’re busy. People in the city are just trying to get from point A to point B as quickly as possible. So once you’re living here and if you ever find yourself lost, You could pretty much ask anyone (unless they’re a tourist) for they’re help, and they do so kindly. However, there are rude people in New York, but then again, there are rude people no matter which state you live in. The truth is you’re not really safe anywhere. Aside from some of these misconceptions, New York is such a great city to live in. I myself have lived here for four years now, and I still find new things every day to do in the city…FOR CHEAP. It is a “concrete jungle” if you will. Being an actor/artist, I find that it’s the hardest for artists to survive. So especially for you artists, filmmakers, actors, and writers more survival tips and how to have fun on a low budget will be given in the coming weeks.
