IT’S A DOG FIGHT!

Watching the Presidential debates last night made me realize, this election is gonna be a dog fight to the end! Barack Obama came out swinging and Romney showed that not only can he take a punch, he can throw a few haymakers himself, and both attack dogs went after each others throats albeit in a “politically correct” manner; until they were separated and returned to their neutral corners.

I have to say that I really enjoyed this debate because the faces and body language these two men displayed was comical to say the least.

I could sense that President Obama wanted to jump out of his seat several times when he thought what Mitt Romney was saying was untruthful. If I didn’t know any better, I would say a few choice curse words were on the tip of the Presidents tongue, but he was under control enough to keep his cool and respond appropriately. After hearing about the economy, and the deficit, and foreign policy, for the past several weeks, I was honestly getting bored with the entire process. Leave it to the town hall debate format to add a refreshing spin to the mundane and business as usual campaigns.

If I had things my way, I would host a debate on “Real Time with Bill Maher” on HBO and let the two candidates duke it out, no holds barred. I believe it’s only when you take people out of their comfort zone that you can truly see who they are. I would still allow the audience to ask questions and have Bill Maher moderate so the questions that get asked can’t be side stepped or ignored like some where last night.

Honestly, it’s the crucial undecided vote that these candidates are trying to court; the problem is, when they talk, most of the undecided voters have no clue what they are talking about. Let’s face it, most people in america don’t have the slightest idea of what the political landscape is all about. People only care about how much money they have in the bank, or if they can go to the doctor for a check up without sacrificing a bill payment, and what are we doing to make sure 9/11 never happens again. I propose that we force our future leaders to debate in a manner that all americans can understand and then let us choose who we want to lead. I also believe that “fact checkers” should be on site so the candidates can get called out on lies and misconceptions immediately, ala Candy Crowley last night when she so deftly corrected Mitt Romney when he pressed the President about the terror attacks in Benghazi, Libya.

If the regular voter can see what we saw last night, but in a more raw and uncut fashion, I believe we would choose better leaders, and the country would be much better off because of it. I know this is wishful thinking on my part, but in my humble opinion it makes sense.

It’s almost over, we have one more debate left and it’s supposed to cover foreign policy only, but I’m sure we will hear more of the same things we have been hearing for the past few months. I’m going to watch anyway because it’s the fourth quarter, the game is tied, and I want to see who has the stamina to finish strong!
