This weeks Crypt Host

Its been years since I watched “Tales from the Crypt”. The other day I browsing randomness on Youtube and sure enough a Tales from the Crypt episode was in the right corner. So obviously this had to be watched. I always appreciated this series and vaguely remembered certain episodes. But I never really noticed one thing. Maybe I was too young to realize it but every week they had a phenomenal actor play a major role in the episode. It was like Saturday Night Live with a different quest host every week.
There are two particular ones that are personal favorites of Mine. One of them Start my favorite childhood character of Superman….obviously I am referring to the late Christopher Reeves. In this episode he is also accompanied on screen by Meat Loaf and Judd Nelson among others. The episode Aired in 1992 and was titled “Whats Cooking”. Our main character played by reeves is a struggling restaurant owner, who’s business is doing poorly due to the face he only serves Squid. a very frail and timid character, Reeve’s almost portrays a Clark Kent image. Meat Loaf plays a slumlord who is itching to kick out Reeve’s character. Long Story Short, Judd Nelson Kills Meat Loaf and cuts his body up and the restaurant now serves “steak”. Pretty Ironic how someone named Meat Loaf is killed and served as steak. It is also the best steak around and the restaurant is now booming. But what happens when there is no more “steak”…or Meat Loaf. Well Judd Nelson finds out the hard way the solution to that problem as Reeves slowly puts his face on the fryer. Superman is a cannibal.
Also airing in 1992 was an episode called “Split Personality” Staring none other than Joe Pesci “AYYYY” his mafia like character is briefly seen on screen with Joe Pantoliano and Burt Young (both of who had tough roles in the HBO series “The Sopranos”) amoung others. The premise here is Joe Pesci always wanted to sleep with twins. He gets his chance when he meets two young and attractive twinsbut has to trick the twins that he also has a twin brother. But the two can never be seen together as they rotate “taking care of Business in South Africa”. For a while the gettin is good but a distinct sun tan tells the girls he has been lying. Since they like to share everything right down the middle, that’s exactly what they do. Pesci is tied down and split in half with a chainsaw. the episode ends with each of the girls and their own very blood half of Pesci in bed.
There are so many more great actors who not only acted in but directed episodes. Such as Michael J. Fox, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Tom Hanks, Demi Moore, Brad Pitt, Don Rickles, Kurt Douglas and Adam West among many others.
If you have time tell us your favorite episode. Oh yea…Tales From the Crypt was also good for that late night TV partial nudity…
